I developed an educational website with video on the Physical Assessment of a Patient as well as a DVD version with menus created in Encore. Analysis/Need: the previous year showed heavy failure rate among nursing students for this practical exam. Though Nursing was under different leadership and faculty at that time, the new faculty and director were interested in having this training available online and as a DVD for the students. My role included writing a grant for the equipment to do the lighting and videotaping, ordering the equipment from B&H, directing the videotaping and lighting, acting as patient (while moving lights around in between shots in a hospital gown), editing video, building the web interface with Flash and Dreamweaver, designing the After Effects intro, loading the site online, building the DVD version in Encore and burning the project to DVD. Professor Mary McWilliams wrote the script and Chandra Dunbar, the Educational Technologist for Pharmacy helped by video taping and moving lights.

The OFIC grant that I wrote - was for four pilot projects. This project was one of them.

nurse placing blood pressure cuff on upper arm of patient.
nurse shining light into eye of patient to test pupil response
nurse showing patient how to cover one eye before reading an eye chart
nurse palpating lymph nodes in neck of patient
nurse listening to lower left chest for heart exam
nurse palpating behind knee of patient for popliteal pulse
nurse showing patient how to stand on one leg to obeserve balance and coordination
